AI receptionists that sign a HIPAA BAA

27 of the 60 AI receptionists we track say they sign a HIPAA business associate agreement. How you get it varies: some include it on any plan, others only on an enterprise plan, for an added fee or on request.

A HIPAA covered entity that lets an AI receptionist take patient calls needs a BAA with that vendor. A page that says “HIPAA compliant” without offering a BAA isn't enough, so we count only vendors whose own pages say they sign one.

Questions

Which AI receptionists sign a HIPAA BAA?

27 of the 60 we track say on their own pages that they sign a business associate agreement: Aircall AI Voice Agent, Allo, Arini, Assort Health, Dentina, Dialpad AI Receptionist (Dialpad Resolve AI Agents), Dialzara, echowin, Goodcall, Hello Patient, Hyro, JustCall AI Voice Agent, My AI Front Desk (Frontdesk), Newo.ai, Nextiva XBert AI Receptionist, Phonely, Podium AI Employee, RingCentral AI Receptionist (AIR), Rosie, Ruby, Sonant, Trillet, Upfirst, Vida, Viva AI, Weave AI Receptionist and Zoom Virtual Agent Receptionist. Several offer it only on a higher plan, for an added fee or on request.

Is a “HIPAA compliant” AI receptionist the same as one that signs a BAA?

No. “HIPAA compliant” is the vendor's own claim; there's no official HIPAA certification. Under HIPAA, a covered entity such as a medical or dental practice needs a business associate agreement with a vendor that handles protected health information for it (45 CFR 164.502(e) and 164.504(e)). We list a vendor as signing a BAA only when its pages say it signs one.

Do I need a BAA to use an AI receptionist?

If you're a HIPAA covered entity and the receptionist will hear, record or store patients' health information, such as appointment reasons or insurance details, HIPAA requires a BAA with that vendor before it handles the calls. Ask your compliance adviser how this applies to you; this page isn't legal advice.

Which AI receptionists say they don't sign a BAA?

NextPhone says so on its own pages; it isn't meant for calls with health information.
