Is Iowa a one-party consent state?

Iowa is a one-party consent state: one person on the call can consent to it being recorded, so a business can record its own calls without asking the other caller under the state rule.

The law

Rule
A one-party consent state
Notes
A sender or recipient may record a message, and a person openly present and participating may listen or record (727.8). The wiretap chapter also allows a party, or a person with a party's prior consent, to intercept unless it is done to commit a criminal, tortious or injurious act (808B.2(2)(c)).

For businesses using an AI receptionist

AI receptionists usually record and transcribe calls. Announcing at the start of the call that it's recorded, and that the caller is speaking with an AI assistant, is the common way businesses handle callers from states with stricter rules.

Calls with people in two-party states such as California, Florida, Illinois, Maryland can raise the question of which state's law applies, which is why many businesses announce recording on all calls.

Compare AI receptionists and check which ones announce recording and AI use.
